Hi Kenneth, Welcome to the FILA message board. Thank you for making your weekly report.
Vocabulary: Great job learning 87 words. Be sure to use these words so you don't lose them. Did you also learn other forms of the words?
Reading: Please share the story with us next time.
Listening: Did you mean "How to make a telelphone call?" That's great!
Writing: If you take a moment to think about what you want to write before you start writing, this may help you have more things to write about in those 10 minutes.
Good job making an excellent weekly report. I'm looking forward to reading your next report.
Sincerely,
Miyagi H

Hi Kenneth!
This is Malcolm, one of the FILA English teachers.
Fifty-six words! Try using the new words that you learn each week when you write posts on this board or any time you speak or write in daily life. It may seem strange at first, but it does help you remember them. Maybe you have heard the phrase, "Use it or lose it." Using the words regularly with help you to remember them and keep them in your long-term memory. Then you can say with certainty that you have learned them.
"Tuesdays with Morrie" is a great book. There are so many wonderful themes in the book. What was the most interesting thing you read this week?
Little by little! You don't have to listen a lot at one time. Listening is a skill like playing a sport or an instrument. If you only practice once a week, it will take longer to develop. Try it if you can.
Writing is also a skill which develops with consistent practice. Try to do at least 3 a week. Remember, Quick Writes are to develop speed and the ability to think and write quickly about a topic. Read the topic and then think about it for one minute, then write. All the topics are different. Some will be easier to write about than others, this is normal. Don't worry. You will get faster with practice.
Keep it up!
Malcolm

Hi,Malcom! Nice to meet you!
Thank you for your advice. I haven't heard the phrase "Use it or lose it." Acutually, I am forgetting the words day by day. I try using new words.
Vocaburary: I learned 50 words this week. For example, "flourish" and "successor". I keep studying to flourish in the world as a successor of Ikeda Sensei.
Readeing: I could go on reading "Tuesdays with Morrie" a little. His passion for education is great! Although he was dying, he keep teaching. If I were he, I can't do that. I'll go to a world cruise with my lover.
Lisrening: I keep listening NHK radio program. In the begining, I learned "Business Communication in Simple English." But now, I'm learning "Business Communication in Action." I stepped-up the level.
Writing: I did a quick write about my vacation with my family when I was 15 years old. I went to Spain!! It's just my first trip as sightseeing! Everything there were surprising for me!
These days, I feel the turning of the season. The cherry-blossom season is coming. It's my favorite season apart from summer.
Thank you!

Hi Kenneth.
Malcolm here again.
Good job using some of your new words. Keep using them as often as you can and in as many different situations as possible. Don't forget to study related words, or other meanings for the words. I know you were working with polysemic words last week. What was a surprising meaning of a word that you knew a meaning for?
We are all teachers and we are all students. I hope that I will be helping people to understand the world (teaching) till the day I die. Who do you teach?
Congratulations for moving up a level. What kind of business situations are they using in the course?
I have never been to Europe, but I hope to go in the future. How many words did you get this week?
Keep up the good work!
The cherry blossoms seem far away to me right now. I'm visiting my parents in America. It is -22 degrees C outside now.

Hi! I've been tired scince I won the fight of the final exam on Friday, so I'm writing a weekly report now.
Vocaburary: This week, I learned 10 words and some of them is in the film I watched today. I like a word "yammy". Its sound is good. But It's used by child. I use it only to my friends.
Reading: I read an assignment of the final exam. It's about the priblem which is caused all over the world. For example, differences between the poor and the rich and the diseases tabacco has caused.
Listenig: I watched a video in youtube. It teaches me important things in English lives. I learned we had better not say foreign people "I want to make foreign friends." because it doesn't care about their real nature but the fact they are foreigner. I won't say "I want to make foreign friends."
Writing: I did nothing. I will do next week more than this week.
I'm a little tired even now. The best way of recover from my fatigue is to sleep. Thank you, bye.

Hi Kenneth.
Malcolm here.
Yes, we understand that you are still taking exams and have other high school related activities. If you didn't have much time this week, then do what you can and do more next week. We are only asking you to be as consistent as possible in your pre-study for FILA. We don't want English to be a burden or a frustration for you. We just want to help prepare you as much as possible for your entrance into FILA. Take a deep breath and relax. Little by little!
Vocabulary: I think you mean "yummy," right? I have never heard of "yammy" before this.
It is very important to review the vocabulary you are learning. Keep using them as often as you can and in as many different situations as possible. Don't forget to study related words, or other meanings for the words. Using the words consistently will help you remember them, so they will become automatic and you won't have to think about them when you are using them. What was the most interesting word that you have studied so far?
Listening: Sounds like some good advice. Friends should be the same no matter where they are from. I once had a Japanese friend who told me he wanted to go to America to meet foreigners. I told him that in America he would be the foreigner. He said no, he was Japanese and they are foreigners. I was surprised by this.
Writing: If you didn't have much time this week, then do what you can and do more next week. We are only asking you to be as consistent as possible in your pre-study for FILA. We don't want English to be a burden or a frustration for you. We just want to help prepare you as much as possible for your entrance into FILA. Take a deep breath and relax. Little by little!
In general, do each of the activities we have suggested a little each day. Make it a habit, even if it is only for a few minutes. Build this into a habit. You can do it. This will not only help you when you come to university but also with the rest of your life.
Keep up the great Work!
Malcolm

Hi!
Mr.Malcom, The word I've thought it interesting is "bullocky." My friend who will go to the Soka University of America tought me this word. I don't remember it perfectly, it means "like a cow." I think English has many words about animals. For example, cow, cattle, beaf and bullocky. I want to know the reason they use different words from each situation.
this is my weekly report.
Vocaburary: I learned 34 words this week. I thought it's important that I don't remember the words as a translation of Japanese but on feel because English words sometimes express different meaning. The best way of hundle this is to remember the words on feel.
Reading: I read the TIME magazine and an article "China's Bad Croud." It says China has made up good relationship with other countrys as a business partner. Bat He doesn't have friends. Japan should make up good relationship with China.
Listening: I listened the song "Mary had a little lamb" I've Listening to it in Japanese since I was a babay, but I've never listening to in English. So It's interesting for me.
Writing: I did a Quick Write "Could you survive for 1 week without mobile phone." It's difficult topic for me, so I write 110 words.
