Hi! Good evening everyone, Vocabulary: I did 100words. I made a list and checked how to use the word. And I made the cards of words I didn’t know.
Listening: I watched one TED video about “How to make stress your friend” by psychologist Kelly McGonigal. This was about that how people handle their stress in the life. I understand that stress isn’t always harmful for us. This video will change your belief about stress! I’d like to remember this when I feel uncomfortable by stress. And also I checked some CNN news every day.
Reading: I have been reading “The Willpower Wisdom”. This book is by Kelly McGonigal again. Willpower is the ability to do what matters most and to make a good choice for your goal. We can’t resist distractions and temptations in spite of knowing what to do now. But I'm learnig that we can strengthen the ability to win those competitions and enhance willpower in daily life.
Writing: I did 6quick types this week. About 100 words are my limit now. So next week, I’ll try to type what comes to my mind about the topic sooner than this week. Typing 200 words should be achieved.

Hi Mikaela. Welcome!
I'm Malcolm, one of the FILA English teachers.
Looks like you are off to a good start. One hundred words., wow! Try using the new words that you learn each week when you write posts on this board or any time you speak or write in daily life. It mat seem strange at first, but it does help you remember them.. Maybe you have heard the phrase, "Use it or lose it." Using the words regularly with help you to remember them and keep them in your long-term memory. Then you can say with certainty that you have learned them.
Stress can be both good and bad. What are the most stressful times for you? What do you think will be the most stressful part of joining FILA in April? How will you turn that stress into a positive power?
Sounds like an interesting book! Yes, distractions are a big problem for everyone these days, especially with all the electronics that "call to us" regularly throughout the day. It sounds like you are watching and reading some good material to help you get ready for FILA.
Writing/typing are skills! The more you do the better you get...well in this case, the faster you get. Quick Writes/Types are only about quantity not quality, that will come later.
Good Job! Keep it up!
Malcolm

Vocabulary: I learned new 100 words.
Reading: I read the rest of the book “the will power” this week. In this time, I got a good phrase. It is “The best resolutions aren’t about choosing a behavior to change or reaching a goal. It’s not about what I want to achieve. It’s about how I want to approach life.” from the topic of “the perfect new year’s resolution”. This book gave me many tricks of achieving goals.
Listening: I watched two ted talks. The first is "Danger of hiding who you are". And the other I watched is “how not to be ignorant about the world” by Hans Rosling and his son Ola. This video showes us how to get out of the ignorance around the world. We in the developed countries don’t know that what is happening around the world at all. He showed that it is true by asking some questions. We tend to have preconceived ideas and misconceptions that the problems of poverty, gender and education are getting worse because we don’t know the present that the situation in the world has surely been getting better than the past. Although the world is still inequality, the division between rich and poor in the world are changing for good on the basis of the data. I think we have to stop thinking with our misconceptions by skewed information and intuition. And also,I'd like to learn truths of what is happning arond the world through this video.
Writing: I did 7 quick typings and typed about 150words per topic.

Vocabulary I learned 100 new words.
Reading I tried to read a book but it was a little bit difficult to understand the details of the story , so I changed a book into “Roman Holiday”, which is really famous story for Audrey Hepburn. This is the story about Princess Ann who was feeling tired of being a princess and her many works to do every day. When she stayed in Roma, She crept out the hotel and walk around Roma and enjoyed “ordinary life” she had never experience. I’d like to see this movie.
Listening I watched two ted talks. First of the two is “For these people, reading is a daring act” by Laura Boushnak. She shared the story about Female education problem. She has been reporting the situation as a photographer in Arab. There are a lot of women who can’t go to school and they were forced to marry when they are still young. Although they want to learn at school, the communities which they are belonging to take away women rights to accept an education we take for granted. For us, it is natural to take an education, and we never have an experience that we can’t take it. And many people once have thought studying is not fun. But in this world, it is not natural to take an education for some people, and they are just longing to know how to read and write. I think we got to know and spread this situation and help those women take an education the same as us. And the other is “Success, Failure and the drive to keep creating” by Elizabeth Gilbert. She is the famous author for “Eat, Pray, Love”, which Julia Roberts acted on the screen. In her unpublished days, she had been writing without giving up to be a writer. Even after a huge break of “Eat, Pray, Love”, she faced a problem again that if she can bring out a greater book than "Eat, Pray, Love".But she noticed what to do, “Her home” is to keep writing regardless of bad consequences because writing is more beloved than loving herself for her. I learned from her idea that I may meet with the setbacks but keeping always leads to success and the most important thing is to love the thing I want to do like her.
Writing I worked on 7quick typing in this week and I wrote about 180 words this week. And in one of the topics, I wrote 230words.

Hi Mikaela.
Malcolm here.
By the way, I love musicals, too. Some of the recent movie-musicals have been really great, but I really love to watch stage productions of musicals. (I was an actor/singer when I was younger and performed in over 20 stage musicals...but not on Broadway.)
Vocabulary: One hundred "new" words every week? Wow! I'm not sure I could do that. It is very important to review the vocabulary you are learning. Keep using them as often as you can and in as many different situations as possible. Don't forget to study related words, or other meanings for the words. Using the words consistently will help you remember them, so they will become automatic and you won't have to think about them when you are using them. What was the most interesting word that you have studied so far?
Reading: "Roman Holiday" is a classic. Do you see any similarities between the princess's story and your life or your life in the future? What are they?
Listening: What do you think you could do to promote education of girls/women in cultures where they may not be receiving an education like you are? How can you make it acceptable to men/religious leaders in those cultures?
Does failure help you to go forward? Do you have any examples from your life?
Writing:
Good job with the Quick Writes. Keep it up!
Malcolm

Hi. I am Mikaela.
It is getting warmer in Yokohama and also i'm suffering from terrible allergy to cedar pollen these days.
Anyway,I am surprised that Malcolm was the musical star! I wish I could see your acting.
This is my weekly report. Vocabulary I learned 80 new words in this week. I’ll try to use the words I have learned daily.
Reading I read chapter 5 and 6 of “Roman Holiday”. Ann enjoyed the tour in Roma hiding who she is. She was finally found by two men who were looking for her to get her back. But Ann kept running away from them with two friends, Joe and Irving. I’ll finish reading this book next week.
Listening I watched a ted talk about “embrace the near win” by Sarah Lewis. Mastery is not success and it means nothing if you can’t do something you are trying to be able to do again and again. Mastering is not easy and needs times and concentrations.I have an example of my near win experience. It was when I was at junior high and one of brass band club members. I practiced a difficult phrase again and again to be able to play well for the competition. It took me many times to play it well and I kept practicing over and over again for mastery. I think this was the near win for mastery she mentioned. And also, I checked some news this week.
Writing I did 7 quick types this week. I wrote about 190~200 words. I try to write more than 200 words.
