Hi Michael!
I'm Malcolm, one of the FILA English teachers.
Try to do a little everyday. Studying a lot at one time is very stressful and you forget more easily.
Thirty words is good. Making lists is good too, but can you use the words in sentences? Try using the new words that you learn each week when you write posts on this board or any time you speak or write in daily life. It may seem strange at first, but it does help you remember them. Maybe you have heard the phrase, "Use it or lose it." Using the words regularly with help you to remember them and keep them in your long-term memory. Then you can say with certainty that you have learned them.
"The Monkey's Paw" is scary. Cause and effect are not always predictable. What would you wish for if you had 3 wishes?
You said that Matt Cutts's talk made you want to try something, what is your challenge? Remember that when you set goals, you need to keep them simple so that you are able to continue till the end.
Good job with the Quick Writes. Actually, you should read the prompt and think about what you want to write for 1 minute. Try that and see if it helps you even more.
Keep up the good work. Little by little!
Malcolm

Dear Fila english teacher . Thank you for sending email to me . I am very sorry to dalay email twice . Honestly, It is difficult for me to do learn English everyday because I am a lazy . In my case , in the summer vacation I finished doing homework the last day .it is like Nobitakun.
As I know that studying each day is so bad thing . However ,I tend to do that . One day I tried to 3 writing and next day reading 80 minutes . So my life is so irregular. As a result , I forgot . I apologize to you for delaying email. ★vocabulary I leaned 35 words total in this week . As I said that before I make a list .this list is not only word and meaning but also example sentence .Therefore, To remember word is easy .sometime I forget uhh.
★reading I read THE Elephant Man. After finish reading it I was surprised because It is a true story. I felt that the people who bully him is so terrible. I have a experience of similar case. Somehow or other I understood the felling of him.
★listening I watched 6 ted talks in this week .In particular Erin McKean Go ahead, make up new words! In japan elder people criticized the new word made by younger .However ,Erin says that it is a good things for us to create new words because own words is personality .she also says that it is useful for us to communicate with people by using it . After listening it , I want to make a new words year.
★writing I did 6 writings .Above all , I would like to introduce my favorite class. I like call classes because I can watch a video in English . In the present, we watched field of dreams . it is so interesting .As I watched it at first I think it is horror because main man heard of strange voice ,(If we built it ,he will come) however ,as a result the end of the story is happy .it also makes me happy.

Hi Michael.
Malcolm here.
One of the reasons for these pre-study materials is to help you get ready for university life. We want our students to be good at time management and autonomous learning. It’s important to make learning a habit. Once you enter FILA you will struggle if you are not accustomed to managing your time. Please try to stay consistent in your learning.
Thirty-five words is good. Using an example sentence to help you remember how the word is useful as well. I would also like to challenge you to use the new words you are learning in your daily life when you speak or write. Making your own original sentences using the new words you are learning. Don't be afraid to use English with your friends. What were the most interesting words you learned this week?
"The Elephant Man" is a sad story. Joseph Merrick had a miserable life but had a gentle heart. What is your similar experience?
There are many new words every year. What are some of the new Japanese words and what do they mean in English?
Six is good. Be sure to space them out over the week, no more than one per day. How many words are you getting in your Quick Writes?
Keep up the good work. Be consistent.
Malcolm

Dear everyone Last week, I had a final exam and for some reasons I could not send weekly report .I am sorry . (This week includes last week study.)
✰new words I learned 60 words . It is difficult for me to remember of unknown word because even if I understand the meaning of some unknown its , these words is not used in my normal life.so I tend to forget it . However ,I ll try to keep remembering it
✰Listening Last week ,final exam week ,I studied pre first grade of Eiken ,listening it 20minutes every day and this week I tried to listen to6 BBC news .(BBC is more difficult than ted I thought )The newest one I watched is IS militant 'Jihadi John' named as Mohammed Emwazi from London.it is talked about a member of Islamic State. Islamic incidents, I thought that I could not forget that case of murder .
✰reading I have just read Alice’s adventure in Wonderland . I knew this book. When I was 9 years old, I had read it in Japanese.Reading fantasy book makes me happy. However ,I noticed that fantasy book is little more difficult than other books . I cannot explain the reason well but I felt.
✰writing I did 10 quick writings including final exam week. Lately I cannot write more than 150 words even if I imagined what I will write at first. I troubled this situation . However I will do my best by using my own power.

Hi Micheal, Thank you for posting your weekly report. How did you do on your final exams? Vocabulary: We want to encourage you to use these words in your "normal life." Please have them in your mind. Try to form sentences with these words. Use these words in your quick writes. Use these words in your weekly reports. Try to find these words as you do your reading every week.
Listening: OK, what did the program say about the Islamic state? Please give more detail. What did you listen to as you studied for the Eiken? What were the listening files about?
Reading: OK, what was your favorite part of this book. Did you pick up any favorite lines? What do you think Alice represents? Please add more detail in your explanations.
Writing: Great job completing 10 quick writes. We would like to recommend using a keyboard and doing quick types. This way you should be able to get a higher word count.
Michael, good job with your weekly report. Next time please add more detail so we can get a better idea of your use of English every day. Thanks.
Sincerely,
Miyagi H
