Hi Yasmine, Welcome to the FILA message board and good job making your first post. I love basketball. I'm from Utah and my favorite basketball team is the Utah Jazz. I also used to read the comic book Slam Dunk. Do you know this comic book? My favorite character was the point guard. What position did you play?
I know the song you mentioned. Can you play it on the piano? Are there any other songs you like to play?

Reading: The book I'm reading is called "The Grapes of Wrath"by John Steinbeck. My English teacher advised me to read this book and I found this book at my high school library. But I read only introduction. The main characters, the Jords,in this novel had lived Oklahoma.Their home town had been attacked by "Dust Bowl".The Joad family is faced with a journey of more than one thousand miles to California in search of a better life. They struggle with illness and death. But Joad hopes for jobs and a better future keep them going.I'll read further in the story.
Listening: I watched a TED Talk entitled "The new type of support" by Joy Sun.This was an interesting speech about how to support poor people. She said that there are many people who are suffring from povety but it is possible to make aid system.this system is goverment give poor people cash. So,they can educate and take care of children more safety.Aiso I think I want to suport poor people. So,I was able to enjoy listening her speech.

Hi Jasmine, Good work on your first weekly report. I see that you chose a TED Talk that connects to your interest in working for JICA in the future. This is a great way to make the listening practice interesting for you. What is the connection between the government giving poor people cash and their education and their children's safety? For your quick writes, the important point is to write what you are thinking and not worry about your grammar. Try to give many details so that you can write more words. Thank you for posting and keep up the good work. Please read your classmates reports and comment on their progress. Sincerely,
Valerie Hansford (Val)

Vocablary:I learned 31 new words this week and I made 11 vocablary cards. Also I tried to revew some difficult words I learned last week.Every day I try to write sentenses using these new words before go to bed.For instance "The heavy rain hindered traffic" "She tied up the parcel with string" This learning style is the best way to memorize new words for me.It is interesting for me to learned new English words!!
Reading:I continue to read the book. It's called "Grapes of Wrath" It is difficult for me to read this book because there are many difficult word in this book. But I try to look up some new words. This story is really sad.Because Joad's family was reached the end of my rope because of the wave of the day. Also many people suffer from poor not just Joad's family. But They helped each other. So I was moved.
Listening:I watched TED Talk entitled"HOW TO BUILD A REAL ENERGY REVOLUTION IN AFRICA"by David Moinina Sengeh.I was attracted by this title. Now nearly 70% of the African population doesn't have electricity. So,he introduced "pot-in-pot"refrigerators.It will not store and keep safe large volume of vaccines and bicycles will not generate enough power to support any from of manufacturing and production. Also It supplies power to 14 clients in Nkoilake,Kenya, and so on.I think this system is really good for African people.Helping each other create strong bond. So,I want to get involved with these project in the future.

Hi everyone!How are you?
Vocablary:I learned 30 new words this week and I made 14 vocablary cards. It is really fun for me to learn a lot of new English words!!I'll keep up the good work:)
Reading:I read the book. It's called "The Diary Of Anne Frank " I knew this story because when I was a junior high school student,I watched this show.So. it is difficult for me to read this book because there are many difficult words in this book. But I was able to understand the story. This is really harrowing story.Because this is about discrimination. In 1942,with Nazis occupying Holland,a thirten-year-old Jewish girl and her family fled their home in Amsterdam and went into hiding in the attic. For the next two years, until their whereabouts were betrayed to the Gestapo, they and another family lived in the"Secret Annexe"of an old building. They faced hunger, boredom. In her diary Anne Frank recorded vivid impressions of her experiences during this period. After reading this book,I recognized how eloquent and sometimes poignant her story was.I was gave Anne Frank energy to live.I'm sure almost all people have head oe the title, but I want to read this and feel her energy.
Listening:I watched TED Talk entitled"Hopeful lessons from the battle to save rainforest"by Tasso Azevedo.Forest products are all around us.Apert from all those products, the forest is really important for climate regulation. In Brazil, almost 70 percent of the evaporation that makes rain acutually comes from the forest. But in the last 10 years, we lost half of that. So,He happend to be coming to work in the government. And together with other teammates in the National Forest Department,They were assigned a task to join a team and find ut the causes of deforestation, and make a plan to combat that at a national level, involving the local governments, the civil society ,business, local communities,in an effort that could tackle those causes. We need to have the courage to acutually change the route.I think we are going this wite deforestation in Brazil, and I hope we can do it with climate change in the world.
Writing:I did 4 quick writes this week.Last week I was able to write about 250 words. Also this week I can write about 250 words on quick writes.I'll try to write English as much as I can. Also from this week,I try to read sentenses I wrote.

Hi Jasmine!
This is Malcolm, one of the FILA English teachers.
Vocabulary: Good job with the new words. It is also very important to review the vocabulary you are learning. Go back and review the words from the beginning of your studies. Keep using them as often as you can and in as many different situations as possible. Don't forget to study related words, or other meanings for the words. Using the words consistently will help you remember them, so they will become automatic and you won't have to think about them when you are using them. What was the most interesting word that you have studied so far?
Reading: "The Magic Treehouse" series is great. Which book are you reading? Tell us about that book.
Please don't copy and paste from the internet and edit it. Please write in your own words.
Listening: Again, please don't copy and paste from the internet and edit it. Please write in your own words.
How much do you sleep each night? Is it enough?
Writing: Be consistent and your will see your speed increase. How many words was your best score this week?
In general, do each of the activities we have suggested a little each day. Make it a habit, even if it is only for a few minutes. Build this into a habit. You can do it. This will not only help you when you come to university but also with the rest of your life.
Keep up the good work.
Malcolm
