Hi Angel, Thank you for posting your introduction. Everyone else please feel free to post in other peoples' threads. I've never been to Ehime but I thought Ehime was warm. How much snow did you get? I've never eaten "Tai-Meshi" but it looks good. Most Americans wouldn't like the fish staring at them when they eat it. I love Taylor Swift too. Have you had a chance to go to any of her live concerts? You might be able to when you study abroad. What is your favorite Disney song? What is your favorite Disney movie? Please share with everyone.

I got 10cm of snow. A storm warning was out. But today it's is warm in Ehime. It's okay. I try to post in other people's threads. Many people like to listen to music. I want to know popular songs now:D I haven't had a chance to go to any of Taylor's live concert. So that's good! I want to study and have relationships with many people in the world when I study abroad. My favorite Disney song is Colors Of The Wind. This is Pocahontas. My favorite Disney movie is Tangled. I like Rapunze. She is cute, full of curiosity and never ever give up her dream.

10 centimeters of snow! Wow! Is it still there or did it melt away?
I love "Colors of the Wind" from Pocahontas. When I walk around the campus of Soka University in the fall I feel like listening to that song. You can see the leaves in different colors falling from the trees almost like wind. Rapunzel is a great movie. I think many of our students are like Rapunzel. They are locked in a tower (Japan)and when they go out and study abroad they make many new discoveries. Have you watched Tangled in English? This would be a great way to practice listening?

It melted away.
I have been to Soka University in spring. I was amazed at cherry blossoms. It was really beautiful. I have never seen like this! I'm looking forward to seeing the leaves in different colors falling from the trees almost like wind not only in spring but also in summer, fall and winter. Yes!! I'm so excited XD I have never watched Tangled in English. But I have watched FROZEN in English with Japanese subtitles at the theater. I think so. I try to watch movies without subtitles in this winter vacation.

Vocabulary: I study from the last page. Because There are many words I don't know than the first page. I learned 20 new words and made a vocabulary notebook.
Reading: The book I'm reading is called "Charlotte's Web" by E.B.White. My favorite scene is When Fern stopped her father from killing a small and weak pig. I was relieved the pig wasn't killed.
Listening: I watched a TED TALK entitled " wry photos that turn stereotype upside down" by Uldus Bakhtiozina. I didn't know social issues in Rusia. But she sent messages with ironic self-portraits. So I can enjoy listening. However, for some of them there was an irony that I couldn't understand. I think it's a different culture...
Writing: I did 5 quick writes this week 1 everyday. It took time to remember words and think about what I should write. The number of words increased and decreased.

Hi Angel, Good job making your first weekly report!
Vocabulary: No problem. One word can have many meanings and many different uses. Reading: Great book. Yes, Fern is a brave girl. Why do you think she saved the piglet? Listening: I'm happy to hear that you had a chance to watch TED Talks. In FILA we have a class called Cross-Cultural Understanding. We will talk about stereotypes. Writing: On the quick writes try to write as much as possible without stopping. If you can't remember a word just write about something else.
You did a great job on your weekly report. Please keep up the good work.
Please read and comment on your classmates posts.
Sincerely,
Miyagi H

Vocabulary: I learn only ten words.
Reading: I was surprised when animals suddenly began to talk.I hope Wilbur is able to make a lot of new friends...
Listening: I watched a TED entitled "Meet the mom who started the Ice Bucket Challenge" by Nancy Frates. I have heard of the Ice Bucket Challenge since before. Because I watched videos of actors, athletes and singers who did IBC. But I didn't know why IBC started until I watched this TED. I was inspired by a boy who has ALS. I think I want be hardworking.
Writing: I did five quick writes. I could write a lot more words than I did last week.
I'm very nervous because I have tests tomorrow.

Hi Angel, Thank you for making your second weekly report.
Vocabulary: Please try to do more next week.
Reading: Great! Wilbur sets a good example for us all on how to make friends.
Listening: I recommend doing the Ice Bucket Challenge in the summer. Often when information is relayed there are missing parts to the information especially between languages and cultures. This is probably why many people didn't know why IBC started.
Writing: Good job doing one every day.
I hope you do well on your tests. Good Luck!
Sincerely,
Miyagi H

Vocabulary: I learned 100 words. I keep writings words over and over and read them out loud for memorization.
Reading: I was happy Wilbur made friends and meet Charlotte eventually. I'm looking forward to reading how she helps him. I hope he wasn't killed...
Listening: I watched a TED entitled "Happy map" by Daniele Quercia. I think people tend to focus on efficiently. As a result, they prefer shortcut compared to the long route. However, as he said, if they change their usual route, they will be surprised. When I was depressed, I bicycled back street because I want to be alone. I was just surprised to be able to see fireflies. When walking a different path, there are many new discoveries!
Writing: I did five quick writing. Words I wrote increased by a few. I want to write using more difficult words.

Hi, Angel!
I'm one of the FILA English teachers.
Good job!
Wow, 100 new words! Writing them and reading them out loud is a good first step. The next step is to use them in sentences, written or spoken. Try using the new words that you learn each week when you write posts on this board. Maybe you have heard the phrase, "Use it or lose it." Using the words regularly will help you to remember them and keep them in your long-term memory. Then you can say with certainty that you have learned them.
"Charlotte's Web" is a great book. I think I read it the first time in elementary school--3rd grade. It has a great message for people of any age. The antics of the animals on the farm are quite funny. What do you think will happen at the end of the book?
Efficiency is good, but for me, adventure is better. It is hard to be adventurous if you are following the same path as everyone else. Find a shortcut or a different path and new adventures will definitely be in your future.
Fireflies....I grew up on a small farm in America. I remember summer nights filled with thousands of fireflies. I miss that.
It is good to hear you are making progress in the number of words in your Quick Writes. Don't worry about writing with more difficult words in the Quick Writes. This exercise is about speed and flow. Use your more difficult words when you post to this site.
Keep up the good work!
Malcolm

Vocabulary: I learned 100 words. I reviewed last week’s words. I had forgotten a few words. However, I’m okay now.
Reading: It was cute that Wilbur tried to spin a web like Charlotte. There's lots of things he didn't know. She is ever so much cleverer and brighter than he is. I don't know yet how she save him.
Listening: I watched a TED Talk entitled “For more tolerance, we need more…tourism?” by Aziz Abu Sarah. I have watched the news that showed how chorus concerts were given in Japan by Palestinian and Jewry high school students. I agree with connecting with people through music, not soldiers. We still have many of walls of ignorance. I think it’s real good to change the world by going everywhere and actually connecting with people. This tourism will lead us to the future…
Writing: I did tree quick writing. The words I wrote didn't increase. When writing, I want to avoid repetition of the same word.

Vocabulary: I learned 20 words. I reviewed last week’s words. And also, I used them in sentences.
Reading: I'm sorry. I couldn't read the book this week.
Listening: I watched a TED talk entitled "Pimp my ... trash cart ” by Mundano. I have seen Catadores in my town. They pick waste from the streets and sell to junk yards at very low prices. There are many Catadores in not only developing countries, but also developed countries. So I think his works is very important because Catadores are able to fight back to prejudice, increase their income and their interaction with society. I hope his works expand in the world...
Writing: I did tree quick writing. I try to do every day next week.

Hi Angel, Thank you for posting your weekly report.
Vocabulary: OK, good. Please continue to use these words every day.
Reading: Please try to read every day. Even if its only a page you need to make reading a habit.
Listening: The basic philosophy behind catadores seems to be "to take trash and give it new life." Can we do this with ideas? Are there old ideas we can change in order to create some new idea?
Writing: How many words did you write in 10 minutes?
Please try to do something in each skill next week.

Vocabulary: I learned 20 words. I don't know whether my pronunciation is correct or not.
Reading: It was funny that a rotten egg saved Charlotte's life. And I was surprised that there, in the center of the web, nearly woven in block letters, was a message. It said: SOME PIG! When I read this sentence, I thought How smart Charlotte is!
Listening: I watched a TED talk entitled "Go ahead, make up new words!" by Erin McKean. I didn't know people in USA take words for cool things like "ninja". It's interesting. And also, it's difficult for me to understand compounding words. In Japan, many new words are made and these grab people's attention, too. I think Japanese is beautiful but is broke by these...
Writing: I did tree quick writing and wrote 150 words. What is points when I do quick writing?

Hi Angel, Thank you for posting your weekly report. Vocabulary: Good job learning 20 new words. If you don't know how to pronounce the word please click on the audio link at: dictionary.reference.com/Do you know how to read the pronunciation? [soo-per-kon-duh k-tiv-i-tee] Reading: Excellent! Yes, Charlotte was not only smart but she was a true friend. What are you willing to do for your friends? Listening: Japanese-English is a form of taking English words and changing the meaning to make "New Words" For example I hear students say "I want to level up my English" which in English means "I want to improve my English." The problem in many cases is that Japanese students think Japanese English is English. Yes, I agree it makes things very confusing. Writing: Please try to do more quick writes next week. 150 words is good but I think you can do better. Please keep trying to improve your writing speed. Great job Angel. Your reading summary looks great. Please continue to give details. Sincerely, Miyagi H

Vocabulary: I learned 30 words. Thank you for sending URL. When I talk in English, I want to use these words. And this week, I reviewed last week's words as I divided its into the origin of a word. For example, I divided " procession" into pro and cess. It's easy for me to image a meaning.
Reading: I don't know why Charlotte's message: SOME PIG is saved Wilbur's life. I can't understand how this message catch the hart of people. It's driving me crazy...But I was relieved again Wilbur wasn't killed.
Listening: I watched a TED entitled"The courage to tell a hidden story" by Eman Muhammad. I know the position of woman is low in some countries. They aren't allowed to do man's job and go to school. I am against these. The reason to be because of woman does not matter. We have a lot of possibilities. All the people should be equal. I think education is an investment in the future. Education connects to poverty reduction and save many people's lives. The pen is mightier than the sword!!!
Writing: I did tree four writing and wrote 160 words. It increased a little.
