Hi!Everyone, Vocaburaly: I found about 30 new words I didn't know, but I couldn't make vocaburaly cards.Next week I try it!
Reading: The book I'm reading is called "my path of youth" by Hiromasa Ikeda. When I was a junir high school student, Dr.Ikeda gave me this. That time, I couldn't read English book so I didn't try, but now I try it! I want to finish reading it by my graduation!
Listening: I watched 4 TED talks. The video I moved the best is "Your body language shapes who you are" by Amy Cudy.Body language is so important. It show own character, and if we change it, we can also change bad caracter.I want to try her suggestion. TED is so interesting, so I continue to watch it every day.
Writing: I did 3 quick writes this week. I could raise my writing speed every time.I like writing about myself. My best record 225 words, so next week, I want to improve my speed more and more! This is good training, I think.

Hi Judy!
I'm Malcolm, one of the FILA English teachers.
We would like to know a little more about you. Please introduce yourself. It doesn't need to be very long.
It is always hard to get started but you can do it little by little!
Try using the new words that you learn each week when you write posts on this board. Maybe you have heard the phrase, "Use it or lose it." Using the words regularly with help you to remember them and keep them in your long-term memory. Then you can say with certainty that you have learned them.
It is a good goal to finish "My Path of Youth" by graduation. Remember, you can read easier books as well. What is the more interesting thing you have read in Hiromasa Ikeda's book so far?
TEDTalks are very interesting! What characteristics do you show in your body language?
Great job with the Quick Writes! Keep up the good work!

Hi Malcolm! Thank you for your comments!I'm happy to get it from you.I'm looking forward to seeing you at SUJ!
My introduce I'm from Ashikawa, Hokkaido. I go to a high school in Osaka, so I live in a dormitory. I like Skiing, dancing and reading.I like talking and eating, too:) I like Amrican movies, these days I watched Annie,I liked it.I listen its sound track music every day!
I remenber the word, "Use it or lose it".I'm not good at keeping doing same thing every day,but I try!
In the book, I was surprised Hiromasa respected Dr.Ikeda as a doctor.I thought if he feeled Dr.Ikeda as a father when they were in a situation of SGI.
My body language is touching my head or neck when I feel nervous. It's not good habit.I want to change it.

Hi Judy!
Hokkaido is my favorite place to visit in Japan. I have visited more than 15 times. It reminds me of my home in America. I'm from Pennsylvania. Asahikawa and my home town are at the same latitude. When people say Tokyo is cold I laugh and say, "you don't know what cold is. My hometown is cold." When they ask how cold it gets in winter, I always say, "look at the temperature in Asahikawa, it is about the same."
I haven't seen the new "Annie" movie yet. I've only seen the 1982 movie and once on Broadway at the theater. It has some great songs.
Actively use your words. You said you like to talk, so with your friends at school you can have a 15 minute English chat time and everyone can practice speaking in English. It doesn't have to be perfect. Even native speakers don't speak English perfectly or know all the right words. The important thing is actively using the English you have learned. "Use it or lose it!"
Don't worry if you didn't read much this week. I know that everyone is busy. Just try to do better next week. You have already made that determination, so I'm sure you will do it.
Creativity is important. What specifically do you want to do that you can try to use the "Golden Circle" approach?
Good work with the Quick Writes. I'm sure you will write more than 200 words consistently in the next few weeks. Keep trying.
Keep it up, Judy!

Hi,Malcolm!
Wow,you visited Hokkaido more than 15 times!? Wonderful!!!I checked world map,I found Pennsylvania. It's really same latitude with Asahikawa. Yeah, peaple in Osaka say it's cold without snow.I couln't believe there were no snow even in winter when I experienced winter in Osaka for the first time.I want to say if I asked how cold Asahikwa gets in winter from international students, too!I'm looking forward to!
Please see new Annie! Its leading child actress is so cute! And she is good at singing much!
I try talking with native speakers actively!I try to talk in English with my friends!
When I research jobs that I want to be in the future, I want to use that circle!"Why" is most important!
I have many things what I need to do,so I'm very busy,but it's so happy thing.These days I noticed:)
Have a nice day,Malcolm!

Judy,
Yes, if it is cold, I want to see snow falling! Cold is "useless" unless there is snow. I hope you can survive the hot, humid summers of Hachioji. Summer in Hachioji almost kills me each year... I still am not used to it.
I would like to see "Annie," but I think I will wait till it is out on DVD or streaming. I really love musicals.
Take care and keep up the good work.

Malcolm, Maybe I will be okay because I experienced Osaka's summer.Katano, that is a city that there is my school,is so humid in summer.I was in a dance club,so I had long practice every day even weekends,I changed my T-shirts and other all clothes many times! It's very hard to wash although it's good memory. Musicals should be seen at the movie theater,I think!Dynamism is buch different!but I understand DVD is much more cheaper, too. I have a term test next week... Judy

Hi Judy, Thank you for posting your weekly report.
Vocabulary: Good job learning 25 new words. I hope this means you can use these words.
Listening: Please watch TED in English. The purpose of the listening activity is for you to be able to improve your listening skills sufficiently enough so when you come to FILA you will be able to understand the native teachers at native speed. If you listen to TED in Japanese you are not working on your English listening skills. Next time please describe what you listened to and learned watching TED and VOA.
Writing: How many quick types did you do? How many words did you type? Please let us know.
Good luck on your final exams. I hope you are feeling better soon.
Sincerely,
Miyagi H

Hi Judy, Thank you for posting your weekly report.
Vocabulary: Did you study vocabulary every day? How many new words did you learn? Did you use these words every day?
Reading: What kind of passages were they? What were they about? Can you please describe and explain what you read?
Listening: OK, if you find that the listening program is too difficult please find something easier to work on. What was the VOA program about? Why is VOA good for you? What did you understand from VOA?
Writing: OK, what exactly was your writing speed? Please let us know how many words you typed in 10 minutes.
I'm happy to hear that you are looking forward to FILA, but we want to help you prepare for the FILA program. In order to do this you need to give us more information (in detail) of how you are doing on your self study. Please describe what you are learning. What you are learning from your reading and listening? How many words you learn? How many words you write? Please answer the questions above. If you still don't understand please look at your classmates posts to get a better idea.
Sincerely,
Miyagi H

Hi,Miyagi!Thank you for your many advice. I write more in detail.
Vocabulary:I learned 30 new words.I'm using coka lists because I want to learn words that is usually used.I couldn't study vocabulary. How can I use new words?Writing?I just made word cards.
Reading:This week,I couldn't read books or passages very much.I finished prints I had,so I need to get another and read a book even a little.By the way,the passages were made by Korean.I heard how to learn English in Korea was very good.I read about animal, learning languages and health,
Listening:I try watching TED in English,it's hard for me,but I continue to be used to the speed.VOA speed is slow and I can read passages,so I can understand easily.
Writing:I wrote it almost every day.Usually I wrote about 170~200 words in 10 minutes. But it is changed by contents. When it's easy to think for me,I can write many, but when it's not,I can not.
I took TOEIC test at school today, but I couldn't finish all questions.I'm shocked very much.My smart friend told to me finishing was easy.I want to raise my reading speed and vocabulary skills.

Hi Judy, Thank you for posting your weekly report.
Vocabulary: Yes, use the words when you do the quick types. Use the words as you write out your weekly reports. Make sentences in your head and use them in simulations in your mind. Find the words you study as you listen and read. You need to have the words go through your brain several times before you can make it your own.
Reading: Please let us know what book you find.
Listening: If TED talk is too difficult please watch VOA or BBC news for English learners. Next time please describe what you watch.
Writing: Great job getting to 200 words. Please try typing so you can increase your word count.
How did you do on the TOEIC test? Finishing early does not guarantee a higher score. In order to increase your reading speed. You need to read more. Time yourself and push yourself. In order to improve your vocabulary comprehension you need to study and learn more vocabulary.
Please keep up the good work. Learning English is a process, we want you to make learning a habit and improve little by little day by day.
Miyagi H
