Hello, everyone! This is my first weekly report.
Reading: In this week, I read “The little prince” written by Saint-Exupéry. I love this book!! Many people have known this book. This is the book about one prince. He has a lot of simple but sophisticated questions. He said “The important thing is what I can’t be seen”. He thinks that if I love one flower on the star in the night sky which is full of twinkling stars, I can love all the sky. From this book, I learned that if I change my mind, all environment can be seen more beautiful. Also, I learned the importance of curious. I decided that whenever I have a children heart filled with curious.
Vocabulary: I learned 100 words in this week. For example, sovereignty, claim and monarchy. Now I use difficult vocabulary book. So I was confused!! I must try to search own level book.
Listening: I listened one BBC radio and 6 TED talks. 1,Erin McKean: Go ahead, make up new words! 2,Daniele Quercia: Happy maps 3,Joe Kowan: How I beat stage fright 4,Julian Treasure: How to speak so that people want to listen something else…
Second video is about creating new map which can show us not only the shortest way but also the way where we can enjoy the site and nature. I learned it is important not to think ordinary and have courage to do new things.
Writing: I did 4 quick writes. First I chose the topic of my free time. In this topic, I could write 222 words! However I couldn’t write more words in another topic. Maybe depending on the topic, I took the many time to come up with idea. So, I want to be able to write any topics. In order to do this ,I always think a lot of things.
thank you!

Hi, Maggie.
This is Malcolm. I'm one of the FILA English teachers.
You have been doing great! Little by little!
Wow, so many books. I have a hard time reading many books at the same time...things get confused. Don't overdo it!
Which medical problems did you hear and think about? Try watching so TEDTalks too! They are not too long and have some interesting topics.
One hundred new words! It is always encouraging when you get to use the words you are studying in a different context, like in class. Try using the new words that you learn each week when you write posts on this board too. Maybe you have heard the phrase, "Use it or lose it." Using the words regularly with help you to remember them and keep them in your long-term memory. Then you can say with certainty that you have learned them.
Sounds like your Quick Writes are going very well. . Don't worry about writing with more difficult words in the Quick Writes. This exercise is about speed and flow. Use your more difficult words when you post to this site.
Keep up the good work.
Malcolm

Hello everyone! How are you doing? This is my third report. Reading : I read “the world is yours to change” written by Ikeda sensei. Through this book, I learned that it is important to think “all of people in the world are friends.” I was gave courage to action in order to make the peace in this world. I think this action is not only big thing but also small thing. First, I decided to do dialog with my friends and I do spread the peace connection. I have a mission to come true a dream which my mentor, Ikeda-sensei has. In order to do this, I will do read a lot of sense’s book! I can learn so many things!
Writing: I did 5 quick write. In this week, I can write 235 words! Now I always write 210 words at least. In this week, I learned how to express our feelings, actions and events. Because of these efforts, I could write 235 words.
Listening : I listened to BBC radio 30 minutes every day and I learned three TED talks, one voice of America and four CNN students news. Through this week, I learned the other country problems. my most impression TED talk is Morgana Bailey:"the danger of hiding who you are". She has been hiding her true self for 16 years. Considering society and friends judgement, we feel fear to show true ourselves. However, watching this talks,I think there is no difference between each other. Every one has fear. I think it is important to get out courage in my heart.
Vocabulary: I’m so sorry. These days, I was so busy to do some works of school that I can remember only 50 words. Oh no! However, I think it is foundation to remember vocabulary in order to master English. So in newt week, I will remember 100 words! Thank you for Malcom's advice. Now I try to use new words. Example 1:If we face the situation of "trials and tribulation", we must never give up! Example 2:We can hear a "prodigious" "spiritual" from "snow-capped" "hilltop".
thank you for your reading!

Hi Maggie, Thank you for posting your weekly report.
Reading: Yes, I also believe you have the potential to change the world. People who change the world believe in themselves.
Writing: Great job! 235 words is great. Good job doing one every day.
Listening: Yes, what are some dangers of hiding who you are? How can we express ourselves and not hide who we are?
Vocabulary: 50 words is more than enough. We recommend 25 new words each week. 100 words may be too many. You also need to be able to use these words. Are you using these words?
Great work Maggie! Please be sure to read your classmate's posts and comment on them.
Sincerely,
Miyagi H

Reading : I’m reading “REFLEX” by DICK FRANCIS. I introduce this book. There is one man who likes to ride race-horse. He has win races for a long time, but one day, one thing happened to him. I don’t know what finally this book wants to say because I cannot finish reading! I cannot help but to be interested about the next part of the book! . Listening: I listened to four TED talks and two CNN students TV. 1, Kenneth Shinozuka : My simple invention, designed to keep my grandfather … 2, Jaap de Roode: How butterflies self-medicate. 3, Tom Wujec: Got a wicked problem? First, tell how you make toast. 4, Siegried Woldhek: The search for the true face of Leonardo , 1: This TED talker is teen inventor. He has a simple but great idea to solve helping his wandering grandfather, who has Alzeimer. He made unique socks. Through this talk, I learned it is important to find a problem which lies in our living place such as family, school and local society. Then I think it is important to continue to think about how to solve that problem. 2: This TED talks says that using butterflies we can make new way to create new medicine. Butterflies have ability to choose to lay their eggs on a special kind of plant that helped their offspring avoid getting sick. I didn’t know this fact. So I was surprised this idea. Through this talk, I think it is important to change a viewpoint.
Writing : I write four essays. My best record is 220 words. I could not improve my writing skills. I don’t know how to train this skill. In university we must write so many essays. So I’m so nerves! Please teach me how to do this. Maybe I think without understanding vocabulary, we cannot write anything.
Vocabulary: I learned 50 words. This is example sentences. She had many “flecks” on her skin. He will never play you “foul”. She works with scrupulous honesty.

Also, this lecture's main theme is psychology. I could know how to connect mental and brain. FIELD OF DREAMS gave me the feeling how wonderful having dream is. Hi Maggie.
Malcolm again.
Yes, we understand that you are still taking exams and have other high school related activities. If you didn't have much time this week, then do what you can and do more next week. We are only asking you to be as consistent as possible in your pre-study for FILA. We don't want English to be a burden or a frustration for you. We just want to help prepare you as much as possible for your entrance into FILA. Take a deep breath and relax. Little by little!
Vocabulary: It is very important to review the vocabulary you are learning. Keep using them as often as you can and in as many different situations as possible. Don't forget to study related words, or other meanings for the words. Using the words consistently will help you remember them, so they will become automatic and you won't have to think about them when you are using them. Making original sentences will help you to use and remember the words better. What was the most interesting word that you have studied so far?
Reading: Reading the Gosho in English is very difficult. You can continue reading it, but I would also suggest reading an easier book as well. This reading exercise is supposed to be enjoyable. and you shouldn't have to look up new words much in this reading. If there are more than 2 or 3 new or unfamiliar words on one page, then it is too difficult for this type of reading. You can use other more difficult reading for vocabulary building.
Listening: How much of the lecture could you understand? Did you take notes about the lecture? As you listen anytime for these exercises, try to take notes about what is said. It is another important skill for you to develop for university classes. "Field of Dreams" is a nice movie. What is your dream?
Please be careful, I think you mean "clapping" not "crapping." Sometimes a simple spelling error can have a very different meaning from what you intend. Look up the meanings of these 2 words.
Writing: If you didn't have much time this week, then do what you can and do more next week. We are only asking you to be as consistent as possible in your pre-study for FILA. We don't want English to be a burden or a frustration for you. We just want to help prepare you as much as possible for your entrance into FILA. Take a deep breath and relax. Little by little!
I'm glad you got to 200 words.
Keep up the good work!
Malcolm

I’m so sorry too late handing in this weekly report. On February 28, we had a ceremony which 45th grade-students who graduate this March made decisions to do their best for graduation ceremony. We called this “SOTUGYOUSEI-TAIKAI”. I am one of this leader. SO I had to have made a lot of speech, power point, project and to dialog. I often went to sleep at 27:30. That’s why I couldn’t write this report on time and I couldn’t study hard. I’m so sorry. I know “People who don't admit to their own mistakes and only make up excuses are disgraceful. “ Entering FILA, if I am busy, I will do my work !!
Vocabulary: I learned 25 words. Example sentences: 1 One good turn deserves another 2 Scepters and suitors hate competitors
Reading : I read “ the old man and the sea” by Hemmingway. This story started the sea and man met a boy. This boy respects the man but another people hate the man. One day the man went to fish. He got a big fish bat as soon as he came back his house, the man had deep sleep. The boy watched his face.
When I finished reading , I had strange feelings it’s like sad, happiness, weariness??. I have no word to express this feeling.
I think this is the reason why this book is named “GOOD BOOK”.
Writing: I couldn’t do any topic, but I have write my diary since February 23 in English. I could write 150 words every day!!
Listening: I listened to ”AM 1710 Antioch OTR”. This radio broadcasts a lot of old radio dramas and plays. For example. The great gildersleeve. I couldn’t understand all conversation. However I could image what they want to tell. So I understood in order to improve English, imagination and creativity are important!!
